A) It's not going to get any better.

B) I think that the whole Mentor thing was a ploy to get me not to quit..I mean, if they aint hiring (!!!), what's the use of being a trainer?

Maybe I am just not suited to this sort of work. Dunno. I really thought I was. Now, I have serious doubts. I can't bear to let so many people down. People in RL. People on here. I am not the saint you all think I am.

After this past week, sitting at the bedside of my friends mother, I thought several times about you. I saw the care the staff gave to Olive and to others. Everytime I have been to this place I have come away thinking how wonderful the staff are. I bet its because they are happy to be there, that they love where they work and the clients love them back.

So its not YOU, its THEM, thepeople who own this place you work at. I suggest, quite strongly that you give it another try but at a better place. A much better place.

You can do sooo much better, I know you can. The group you work for now are a rotten bunch of shithead con-artists.

You ARE suited to this sort of work. Your workplace is letting you down. Not all SNFs are like yours and I've long wished you could find a place that appreciates you more. Where you are, they do NOT value their employees. They just work 'em until they drop and/or quit. The staffing ratios that you describe are horrific. IT'S NOT YOU.

And none of us are saints but you are a good person with immense compassion. Start looking. It can't hurt. At least you can find out what else is out there. I bet it's more than you think.

a place like that, no, they aren't going to get any better. if they wre going to do change, if they were going to treat their people better and make sure they had reasonable staffing ratios they'd have done that a long time ago. it isn't right. and you'd be doing nothing horrible by looking for a different place to work. you're a good person, and you shouldn't ignore what might be best for you. we have to be fair to ourselves sometimes.
