Feb. 27th, 2015 08:43 pmFucking devastated. I guess I didn't think it could really happen.
Was asleep all day, and just woke a half-hour ago to a text from a dear coworker, Connie, who's on vacation in Florida - she assumed I knew.
I don't want to make this, 'about me', but the one thing - out of oh, so, SO many things - that endeared Leonard Nimoy to me was the fact that he'd WON his battle with alcoholism, and talked about it candidly. This came to me at a very dark time for me, when dealing with my husband's death - I don't know, it just made him even MORE of a hero, to me, I guess.
I remember seeing him in the first, 'reboot' movie, and how Pete and I both just blubbered. I'd so hoped to see him in this upcoming one.
I can't really deal with this, right now, but, as some brokenhearted smartass on Datalounge asked, "Can't Sheldon clone him from the napkin Penny gave him?!?"
Boldly go, beautiful soul. ♥

Feb. 12th, 2015 07:29 amThe Carrot and the Stick.
Got my yearly eval, last night - all good, of course.
However.
Since I've made rumblings about leaving, lately -- nothing new, mind you, but they're panicking because we're four full-time positions DOWN. Again. -- they've, 'recommended' me for a Level Two Position...har. A slight raise and 'more' responsibility, aka doing things (like training newbs) that I've already done for ages, now, sans any sort of recompense.
We were told flat-out that no one on night shift would 'ever' qualify for this...so. I'll believe it when I see it. You betcha.
I always make a copy of such things, trust me..as it'll be nice to take to an interview, at the very least.

Jan. 1st, 2015 12:40 amHere's wishing the very best of it - to even the worst of us ;)
“The one who follows the crowd will usually get no further than the crowd. The one who walks alone is likely to find himself in places no-one else has ever been.” - Albert Einstein
Happy New Year - Allons-y!
a) Remember who you are - flex those particular muscles, again. They are your Superpower, for better or worse.
b) Cut this crap out, right now. Wtf.
c) Get real, get solid, get yer head out of your ass and yer feet on the ground, but still appreciate the moving-sidewalk - all is ephemeral.
d) Do-do-do do right.

And yes, that is EXACTLY what I think is actually going on.

Jul. 6th, 2014 01:40 amWhat a divine waste of a day.
Now, I sit here, thinking inappropriate thoughts about the most unlikely of personages, when I should be asleep - as I have to get up super-early, in order to sneak to the laundramat.
Yes, sneak.
It's Fourth O'July weekend, and Sunday morning is the only time I can maybe pull this off - as I can't get my car inspected until TUESDAY. Sunday mornings in Amish country = hopefully, a much-reduced police presence..
STUCK HERE. ALL DAY. ALL DAY, YESTERDAY, TOO.
Go, me.
ELEVEN DAYS UNTIL MY VACATION. CAN'T MAKE PLANS UNTIL I KNOW WHAT MY CAR NEEDS.
Perversion is my only solace, in such a situation.

Jun. 21st, 2014 08:59 amSo. Bumpkin travels, ahoy.
So, it's time for my annual, 'Making Plans for my Vacation; Har Har'. So far, I've found this: http://www.fairfaxvahotel.com/special-pkg/smithsonian-vacation-pkg.aspx - - and called them, and apparently, their website lies, as they do NOT include passes to the bus and/or the DC Metro. Hmm. It's twenty miles away from the museums, but it seems the closer you get, the more it costs. Natch. The pricing seems right, as do the separate expenses for the bus and Metro - this could actually be do-able.
Can you imagine...five days loose in the Smithsonian? I dream, I dream.

http://airandspace.si.edu/exhibitions/space-race/
http://airandspace.si.edu/exhibitions/mer/
There's even a lecture on Mars' polar caps on the 23rd - and it's free!
Not to mention this: http://nationalzoo.si.edu/
I work so damned hard, I don't mind saying I really want to do this..
