Last night, I went to start my car, and took my bag along with me. In the time it took my car to heat up - a matter of minutes; maybe ten, at the absolute outside - someone had stolen my beautiful Colbert tote, which had in it:
$140.00 in cash aka, my heating oil money
atm card
checkbook
driver's license
vehicle registration
car insurance card
health insurance card
healthcare provider's card
cd player and multiple cds

gayalithiel bought me at what may be my last Cureshow ever - the idea of THAT is what started me crying
the water pitcher from when my late husband was in the hospital
my fuckin' HAIRBRUSH
my sunglasses
my gloves
my sad little peanut butter sandwich DJ made me for lunch
God knows what else
The police were oh, so helpful (not) - and walking around, following the tracks in the snow yielded NOTHING. DUH. I even stopped the damned trashmen, this morning - hoping the perps had picked thru the bag and stuffed it into a trashcan to get rid of it - but they claimed to have found nothing....and NOW, the bank had to freeze my atm card and wanted to freeze my account, too, because of the two blank checks.
How am I to get to my money?
"Well, just present ID."
- I HAVE NO ID, YOU HALFWIT.
AND CANNOT GET ID IF YOU FREEZE UP WHAT'S LEFT OF MY MONEY.
And he insisted on sending it to my house ('I already did it'), when I told him we had problems with the mail in the past..And, of course, there's simply no way to expedite shipping on the card. Maybe by the end of the day, today, he will have sent the application.
Maybe not.
We just don't know.
It is a minimum of five business days from THEN, just to clarify.
Even better? If they freeze my account? WHERE DOES MY DIRECT DEPOSIT PAYCHECK GO? INTO THE FUCKIN' ETHER?
The people at the DMV were pretty much jusssssssst as helpful. They basically told me that I have to drive over an hour away WITH NO LICENSE OR ID OR REGISTRATION OR INSURANCE PROOF, BLAH BLAH BLAH - and LOTSA LUCK, WITH THE FUCKIN' HOLIDAYS.

Oh, and of course, by the time my Starfleet Paypal goes thru? Everything will have changed, so I might as well forget that, too.

Date: 2009-12-23 02:23 pm (UTC)Now let me get this straight. Someone can just come up and steal everything that belongs to you: bank card and id and all that and use it right away. However-- for YOU, the person it belongs to, it takes the bank or businesses five days to get the stuff back to YOU...the person who! So, if someone steals it, it's available immediately. You try to get back what's yours: it takes a week. And if you asked them, they'd probably say to guard you from theft.
