Aug. 21st, 2009 07:09 pmStill kinda rattled, and glad I don't have to work tonight.
Last night, at least two men tried to break into where I work (probably for drugs?). Glad we have a good security system - esp given the way our charge nurse panicked.
They were systematically going 'round the building and trying all the doors, and then one individual came up to the ambulance entrance, where there's a camera - a young guy, white, with dirty blond hair - the cameras had a sort of 'red eye' effect on him, but the way he was staring RIGHT into the camera, sort of tauntingly waggling his head was mondo creepy. Looked homeless, and was certainly 'on something' - at first, he tried to say he was injured and 'Could we let him in to help him?', and then, said he needed to use the bathroom..uh huh. He then got angry and started yanking like crazy on the door handle, and bashing at the keypad - all the while, she's calling the cops.
I remembered that the courtyard door was open, to let out smokers - and that the damned service wing's door HAS THE ACTUAL CODE POSTED RIGHT NEXT TO THE KEYPAD FOR ALL TO SEE, RIGHT OUTSIDE - and suggested getting the walkie talkies, as they were initially discovered peeking in a resident's window, and could be ANYWHERE. Then, volunteered for first watch of said courtyard door and service wing - in fifteen minute increments, which were more liEk twenty-five - until the cops arrived......which took over forty-five minutes.....Of course, I pretended to be Paris from, Mission Impossible, with my badass walkie talkie, creeping along, with my back to the wall, peeking around corners and stuff. Robin M. took second watch, as we are both from C'Ville, and were liEk, 'BRING IT, MUTHAHFUCKERS' - lol - Hey, it got us a couple extra cigarette breaks..
It was exciting/scary as hell, I have to admit - but am SO glad that nothing came of it. Poor Mr. E - lying in bed, seeing some guy with his face pressed against the glass. WTF.
