Spent the greater part of the afternoon and early evening, out and about with DJ. Did a bit of this and that, but most importantly, we talked. And we needed to.

First, we went to the local amish produce stand, conveniently RIGHT at the foot of the hill, and got some gorgeous onions, red and green bell peppers, and this lovely tomato that was flirting with me..SO inexpensive, and so fresh and good. We are going to make paninis and a nice stromboli with our finds. Not all at once, mind you, as we are STILL finishing this enormous lasagna.

Then, off to Hibernia, to sit by the lazy Brandywine and sketch. We're working on just the basics - just the initial shapes of things, throwing light, etc - to try to get more dimensional, and got a couple of pretty hilarious results as we sketched each other. He's got hold of one of my anatomy books and yes. I know, I know; I can just see the booby drawings a-comin'..We then messed around on the swings and seesaws, and then, it was growing dark, and we had to go. Talked to a really nice park ranger, who gave us a booklet on events coming to the park. Tomorrow night is a MoonWalk, but, naturally, I have to start back to work.

We stopped at the local Music Store on the way home - the one that never seems to be actually OPEN - and peered in the windows. Lots of dusty guitars and amps, but it was too dark to really SEE anything.

This vacation sure went quick.

Feeling sort of warm-fuzzyish, still. So many little things come to mind, and those are the things that I will carry with me for a long time, I think. The really important stuff. I'd go on, but hehehehh I will embarrass myself..

Sounds like the perfect way to cap off your vacation. How nice that you and your son enjoy moments together. I'm kind of hoping I have a boy...J's mum says they are closer to their mothers than daughters are.

I hope you both get to go - it's the most beautiful place in the world, IMHO - okay, I'm biased! Don't miss out on Northern Ireland if you do go - there's lots of really cool things to see there (my husband's orginally from Blflast so I've been lucky to have been there three times.)

I think giving him access to an anatomy book - a normal, natural unihibited look at a naked female body - will actually make him LESS inclined to be pervy than more. If nothing else, it will satisfy his natural human curiosity to see a naked human form without giving him unrealistic expectations as to what a woman should look like, as would happen should he have gotten a hold of a nudie magazine.

I think it's totally healthy, mom. Good for you.

There is nothing wrong with a boy having a respect for the female form. In fact, if he didn't at his age I would worry about his development. I don't see anything wrong with him looking at a nude form or drawing it so long as it is not obscene. Allowing him to have access to that material that puts unrealistic ideas in his head would be one thing, but allowing him to explore his natural curiosity in a safe and healthy environment is the best thing you can do for him as a mother. It will teach him respect for women as well as allow him to learn about the female body without the worry of him exploring sexual activity that he is not mature enough for. Perhaps it will satisfy his curiosity enough so that he won't be compelled to do things like peep at unwilling / unwitting girls or pursue sex to know what girls look like.

Of course, if he gets hold of nudie magazines, that too is just a part of human curiosity, sad to say. Oh GAWD being a mom is torturous.

If that anatomy book helps him to develop his artwork, then it doesn't really matter WHAT pages he is doing sketches of, does it? At least it's not implants and blowjobs. ::eyeroll::

I have never been prudish about our nudity with the children (not an exhibitionist, but I don't freak if they accidentally see me naked, and they see each other naked all the time) because I think that the more education they have of the human form, the less "taboo" it seems to them and the less inclined they will be to attempt to observe it through avenues we would not prefer them to, such as dirty movies or playing doctor or at his age, sex that he is probably not emotionally mature enough to handle.
