Mar. 17th, 2007 12:00 pmMay the road rise, ya'll.
*~*~*
We are being haunted at work. The random incidents started out as being funny, but now? Not so much.
You had to know Kas. A wee imperious Scotchwoman, she would have been mortified by her behavior in the last few months of her life. Feared by many - not me - her angry spitting and screaming and hallucinatory rants would raise the hair on the head of many a CNA and nurse. So much rage in such a tiny package.
Well, at long last, she passed. SO glad that Mizz J was there to pray with her.
She swore she'd make us all 'sorry'. I still miss her, and never got her carrot dish recipe for, 'Copper Pennies'..Kas was always kind to me, and I did my best for her. She'd met and really liked DJ and always asked after him.
Incident a) Lisa had come in as I was about to leave, and asked me to help her transfer a paralyzed resident with the hoyer lift. Sure. Of course. After we had the resident placed in her geri-chair, we were chatting as we repositioned her, and I brought up K's passing, knowing that she had tormented Lisa - for being 'a whore', among other things - and just as Lisa said, 'I know. She made my life a living Hell.', the arm of the lift began to rise by itself, and the base legs, to separate.. Hand up to God. You should have seen our faces. Lisa: 'I'm not touching it! The remote's on the crossbar!!' Me: '!!!!!' I was at the opposite end of the damned geri-chair and it should be noted that the lift was OFF. Yes. I know it's impossible.
Incident b) A day nurse, Karen, who is absolutely no-nonsense, was coming down the hall, while the residents were at lunch. She heard, clearly, 'B Fourteen!!'! and actually turned back to answer Kas' frequent call, when she remembered that Kas was..well, not supposed to be there, anymore. 'B Fourteen' was her regular cry - too often replied to with a giggled, 'Bingo, Kas!'
Incident c) Julie was working there - doing BGTs - and when she came back out of a room her whole basket had spilled. She told me and Bev that she heard Kas laughing.
Incident d) I was on B Wing - first time since she'd passed - last night, and the poor little man that is now in her bed has gotten NO peace. His bed alarm was going off nonstop and the poor little guy wasn't even moving, let alone enough to set it off. I repositioned him, reset it, etc etc etc...It kept going off until I said, 'Come ON, Kas..I hear ya, hon. Let the poor guy sleep, ok?' It stopped.
There's more, but I'm tired and those are just the ones I really believe, knowing the people and/or being personally involved..
Uh huh. Come on, Grrl. Rest in peace, now.
Rough night, last night - won't even mention the horror of a top denture plate, floating in a basin of vomit - Oh. Did I say that out loud?
Tonight? Potentially rougher, as they have me scheduled with R.
