Mar. 1st, 2007 07:18 amLast night, at work - the most interesting thing, heh.
One of our residents could not sleep, due to his roomate..who was making these horrible gurgling noises all night, thrashing, etc; we could, in all honesty, hear him all the way down the hallway - because he is..getting kind of close, shall we say.
THAT is certainly not the 'interesting' part.
The man was getting more and more upset..LAYING on that call bell..demanding we take the roomate out of the room, demanding to speak to the supervisor, etc etc etc - as he has not had sleep in a week, because of the disturbance. He wanted a room change - at two in the morning. No could do. Wanted to transfer OUT..No could do. The roomate could not be moved, as he is hooked up to all sorts of machinery...
We tried to reason with him..I had two different nurses speak to him..T and I put cotton balls in his ears. Turned on the television. Nothing would suit this man..and I could see (sorta) his point, as he was going out to the doctor in the morning, early - and is alert and oriented, but for his stroke - and pays just as much as his roomate, for his stay there.
So.
I got my headphones for him. You KNOW I *always* have my music with me.
I warned him - the only cd I had with me was a home-burnt peter gabriel, of course (what else do you need, really?). All 22 minutes and 58 seconds of, 'Supper's Ready', and some assorted moody pieces ('Sketchpad with Trumpet and Voice', 'Curtains', etc) - and put the headphones on him.
When I went back to check on him?
He was lying there, nodding his head to the music...
Problem solved. Thanks, peter.
I got a 'Gold Star' for the night. Heh.
