Former 'Genesis' rocker Peter Gabriel has been honoured with this year's 'Man of Peace Award'.

He received the award from a foundation headed by former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev at a formal ceremony on Rome's Capitoline Hill on November 17.

Gabriel was chosen for the honour in recognition of his contribution towards promoting human rights and world peace, reports Contactmusic.

Previous recipients of the award include 'Live Aid' and 'Live 8' organiser Sir Bob Geldof, and Yusuf Islam, the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens.

Although Gorbachev was could not attend the ceremony for health reasons, former Nobel Peace Prize winners Lech Walesa and Mairead Corrigan Maguire came out in Gabriel's support. (ANI))
