The Stranger is the alt/music news rag here in Seattle. That particular cover was done by Ree Brown, the long-time partner of Jay Steensma, a local artist (he died a few years back). Ree has developed his own following for his whimsical and funny paintings, usually just a few strokes on a piece of paper bag or cardboard. I have four of his paintings (and one Steensma piece which I will donate to the museum when I die because it belongs there).

I wish I had the original for the Stranger cover. It cracks me up every time I see it. Heh.

thats very clever. and it DID sound real.

i was watching a documentary on tv last night about a certain politicans here that is pushing his christian faith and how theres a rise in conservative christian based political parties. it sad obviously Australia wants a conservative christian values to come back other wise that party wouldnt be so popular.
...so Australia will be like America one day. using God as something to hind behind and as a flimsy excuse.

And just because I'm a fucking know-it-all, that lyric (freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose) was penned by Kris Kristofferson ('Me & Bobby McGee'). So much for that reporter's fact-checker.
