40 police cars, two paddy wagons, two csi vehicles, and officers in full riot gear with nightsticks and pellet rifles
- surrounding 17 peaceful protestors in Sacramento.
Followed it from eight protestors, remaining, on down - God, what heart these people have - from Karen, who was doing this to show her daughter that she has a voice - to Cindy, who lost her husband in combat - down to Russell. The last. A 'student with cerebral palsy - one of the 99%' - who they escorted out, the very last, in his wheelchair.

Date: 2011-10-16 10:35 pm (UTC)I worked in TO during the G20 debacle. Ugh. Not one of the city's best moments, on anyone's part. I still think all the crap the city did to over-accommodate the G20 delegates was ridiculous.

Date: 2011-10-21 08:37 am (UTC)went into the city today to go to an art gallery.
walked past occupymelbourne in city square on the day our dickhead lord mayor demanded they be removed. the amount of cops were terrifying. three thick of riot police, normal police and anyone-else-enforcements surrounding protesters, with their vans and cars parked on street for blocks around so you couldn't see in. but the cars was pretty lulzy. they seemed to get every car they possibly could find from every division of 'enforcement' even public transport 'cop' cars. if art gallery security and car park attendants had official cars they would have been parked there too id reckon.
reading articles now, it was 400 police with 100 protesters.
and chief of police said 'it was time to give the city square back to the citizens of melbourne'. wot?
sadly i didnt get a photo of the cops cars with silly string on the bonnets and flowers all over them.

Date: 2011-10-21 11:14 am (UTC)And I hate to burst their fuckin' bubble, but I'd wager that most of the Occupiers WERE Melbournites..
Things are escalating in Philadelphia, according to the lame LocalBlurb News that I missed this morning. Have to check that out.

Date: 2011-10-21 01:36 pm (UTC)<img src="http://www.cathyparry.com/images/com/sitefllane.jpg</> yeah, its usually full of that amount of people too. Its the most depressing place no one likes to go to. i think when he meant 'citizens of melbourne', he meant the pigeons and seagulls. protesters arent citizens...hmmm... im reading a few blogs right now and watching the news. im glad i didnt see the shit that went down all caught by the god-knows-how-many people with cameras and phones at every angle. police all over the world must be absolutely pissed off that about EVERYONE filming/photographing EVERYTHING and it being immediately put up on youtube. but the positive is more people are supporting the protesters here. bound to happen when you try to march people down the main street (so dumb!) and bash people right infront of passerbys. and i hear that Occupy Brisbane, local businesses are donating tents and food etc to them. i felt a bit gutless standing at the sidelines clapping when prompted while watching police move the protesters down the street and but i have to admit i was wearing my good trousers and um...just looking at the riot police stand there just a few short metres away me made want to soil them. at one stage, if you wanted to cross the street you had to walk through two or three metres of no mans land between horses / riot police and the protesters. and people, heads down, pretending nothing was fucking happening, were just doing it! insane amount of balls. why the police werent stopping people i have no idea. im going to go read up on occupyPhiladelphia.
