La Vida Loca

Gooood day, despite the ridiculous heat and humidity. And yes. I was out in the SUNLIGHT. Actual natural light...and it was surreal.
My niece graduated high school, this past week - !!! - and I was able to take her camera-shopping. She's very talented (her drawings of people had eyelashes at three years old) and just adorable, a great kid and certainly earned it. Very sweet and giggly, she's a hoot to spend time with and that was the best part, really. Love to make her laugh. We looked so funny, walking together - she's five-nine, and a string bean and I am...well, the total opposite. :)
And found THE HOOK-UP, yo.
My brother-in-law, Dave, and I just get along. I can totally let out my 'Inner Coatesville butch-dyke' with him, always could; not a drop of bullshit with him, and I like that - we keep on finding more and more in common, every time we visit. He absolutely GETS Trek, to boot. I totally understand the 'night shift-insanity' thing with him, too, but - if possible - he sleeps less than *I* do. Had a great afternoon, there, as he loaded us UP with organic vegetables from his amazing garden - two kinds of lettuce, spinach, broccoli GALORE, two heads of cauliflower and nearly two dozen eggs - fresh from the chicken's butt. - liEk, there goes a huge portion of my shopping for the week, bzuh-thanks-man..and tried to foist twenty bucks on him for the alternator belt he sprang for, for DJ - I knew he'd argue about it, AGAIN, so I gave it to Kayla to give to my sister :)
Re: Dave's Amazing Garden - he also has green beans, three kinds of potatoes, peas, two different kinds of peppers, his famous brussel sprouts, and equally famous asparagus (both to DIE for), carrots, tomatoes, beets - LOT of beets; yum - zucchini and God only knows what else. He *insisted* on us taking so much because he claims that my sister and the kids can't eat it all - and guess what gets to eat the leavin's?
Turkeys! They have two adults and SEVEN babies. SEVEN. And - combined with the many chickens in various states of maturity? - you'd die from The Adorable. Sadly, I learned the tragic news that Papa!Tom turkey is earmarked for this upcoming November.
I tried to reciprocate by offering my Grass-Fed Beef Hook-Up from work, but he topped even THAT - he has the hook-up through HIS work, unbelievable steak prices from a farm in Berks County - I don't remember if he said if it was grass-fed or not, though. We eat so little meat, nowadays, that it wouldn't behoove us..pardon the pun..but, DANG, Dave. Wish I had the freezer space.
And, let me tellya - their pool was lookin' mighty tempting. I could actually see hanging out there, this summer, a bit. DJ went back tonight - while I slept - and cleaned out their computer from various maladies and installed some freeware for them. Dave wants to teach him about cars, and DJ certainly has the time on his hands to do so, but - does Dave?
So, wow. Sadly,
gayalithiel, my beautiful horsie friend was nowhere to be seen. I was greatly disappointed by this..and yet, relieved, as I'd promised an apple and was, therefore, a liar..
Came home by six, ate a banana and cleaned a little, then, hit the bed by quarter 'til eight - usually the time I get out of the shower, for work - and crashed until one.
And, here, I sit.
*~*~*
OMG YOU GUYS. Robin at work has some very nice wooded property. GUESS WHAT IS LIVING THERE AND IS FRIENDLY AND LOVES HER STRAWBERRIES?

Annnnnd has been seen, digging a nest to lay eggs! I *so* want one of the babies; have a total soft-spot for turtles - omg, just look at that little FACE.
*~*~*
AND OMG. YOU GUYS. Some man working in the electronics department totally recognized and freaked over myREAL pg-Era Genesis shirt. LOL. WTF. What a great surprise; we talked for like, twenty minutes - we were both so excited. I have half a mind to burn him off a copy of that guy's masterwork compilation dvd of The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway footage and take it to him - just because. Or maybe, Shepperton -
- I LOVE when shit like this happens. :D

Date: 2010-06-14 06:57 am (UTC)that totally cracked me up. One of our parishioners has promised me a nice dozen of his fresh eggs. He has the chickens that lay the green and blue eggs. Acuna? Idk.
Sounds like you Bro-in-law sounds like a good soul. All those wonderful veggies! You are SET! Now you just swallow that werido pride of yours and take him up on those veggies. Anyone who has a garden knows just how you get overrun with produce. You need them more than the dang turkeys. My great uncle used to have the most amazing garden and it was HUGE. He ordered a lot of his seeds from some Amish company. His corn was to die for SWEET. What they didn't eat fresh, my auntie either canned or he dried. He was the first person to introduce me to the wonders of dried fruit and tomatoes.
I miss having a garden and a dryer. Poo.
