Oct. 29th, 2014 12:31 pmFrom the, I ALWAYS WAIT 'TIL IT'S TOO LATE category:
About a mile or so from here, there's a Lutheran church. It has a walking trail that I've always wanted to check out, but, well...it's a church, you know? Like, I guess I thought someone'd jump out from behind a tree or something, trying to convert me, Idk. Of course, today, being my last day of vacation, I had to go to the bank and mail some stuff, so I decided to check it out.
And it was absolutely..delightful.
http://www.livinggodchurch.org/lglc/trail.htm
Only 3/4 of a mile, so I had to do it twice - lol - and it's really nice. Well-marked, but not, 'too tamed', with lots of little bridges and various stops, along the way. It's right behind the assisted living facility, so it's pretty gentle - with the elderly, in mind - - and therefore, perfect for me! LOL. There is an, 'Uphill Trail' option, so I will have to do that, next.
The leaves are gorgeous, this time of year, and the woods were fragrant and whispery, with lots of crunch accompanying each step. I guess these Lutherans have a sense of humour, as the trail is marked here and there with various items - lawn ornaments (everything from cats to frogs to a miniature house for, 'Thumbelina'), faeries in a tree, and even a pink flamingo, which made me crack up. I'd love to come back at dusk - they close at dusk - and try to see the owl, which has a well-marked house way up high in a tree.
Only one, 'heebie-jeebie' moment, as I passed through a path cut into a field of shoulder-high grasses...And I remembered this:
"April 12, 1999
Late Afternoon near Route 10 near Honeybrook
While taking a walk to the neighbors’ house, the witness heard a strange noise and upon looking saw a creature crouched down and looking at him. The creature suddenly stood up and walked off into the wood. The witness described the creature at approximately 7 ½ feet tall, muscular and covered in light brown hair."
From here: http://pabigfootsociety.com/recent-reports.html
I'd no idea that Pennsylvania ranks FOURTH in the nation for reported Bigfoot sightings...
THIS. It doesn't really get going until around 1:16 or so, but OMFG. I mean, OMFG.
Maybe there's more in those woods to worry about than Lutherans!

Jul. 21st, 2014 08:38 pmSo. Yesterday was this: http://www.cineworld.co.uk/whatson/monty-python-live-mostly?cinema=27
AND IT WAS AMAZING. My brother and his girlfriend saw it, with me - and GOD, I needed a laugh..got a bit verklempt, in bits, couldn't help it...they were magnificent, and looked fantastic. My sole complaint was that it was too short, lol (though Mike Myers was entirely unnecessary..Brian Cox and Stephen Hawking, however, were..). The audience helped, too - we were all really into it :)
Rob managed to get a good snap of them, at the end:

Truly, Python FOREVER.
In other news - I just got asked out. On a date. And DRANK A BEER. AT THE LAUNDRAMAT!
Things have clearly gotten out of control.

Apr. 6th, 2014 06:30 pmMy brother is okay. Somehow, I SLEPT THROUGH his going-to-the-hospital-with-chest-pains, early this morning. All tests came back normal.
WHAT'S THE POINT OF HAVING A CELLPHONE, IF YOU CAN'T HEAR IT RING? IT WAS RIGHT IN MY PURSE. LIek FIVE FEET AWAY. Turned up full blast, mind you. And the ringtone is from a remix of Kraftwerk's, Autobahn - vocorder VWs, singing at full-blast. It's never NOT woken me, before.
So, I missed the whole Circus O'Hysteria, with my older sister -
"A bird flew into my house! It's a SIGN OF DEATH!"
"No, it's not! It's a sign of SPRING!", etc.
- - Frighteningly enough, I think my mother relies on me to be the voice of reason, in such times.
I'm just going to be grateful that everything's okay.

"Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter." - Yoda
*~*~*
In other news? FLAWLESS YEARLY EVAL, at work.
Whoot.
So, okay. Show me the money.
*~*~*
SOMEBODY left me with his cats - AND NO CAT FOOD, last night. SO, certain little four-legged people had a huge Dump-The-Trashcan party while I was at work, and while HE slept - LOVELY, to come home, to..believe me.
I wonder if that's when my mother called.

Mar. 15th, 2014 08:17 amIT'S ABOUT TIME (Just learned this, forgive me if, 'old news'):
http://themindunleashed.org/2014/02/india-declares-dolphins-non-human-persons-dolphin-shows-banned.html
Wow:
What have we done? A comment: "And imagine how desperate they must be to overcome their instincts which are urging them to stay away from us no matter what happens, as humans have proven over and over again to be nothing but hostile towards them and all other species – fauna and flora, simple and complex, tiny and huge – on this planet."
He said the false killer whales came to him and were riding in his wake. When he stopped, some of the mammals rubbed their heads against the vessel.
http://www.grindtv.com/outdoor/nature/post/as-many-as-70-false-killer-whales-thrill-boaters-in-rare-showing-off-southern-california/
Captain Dave used a GoPro camera and managed not only to capture close-ups of the false killer whales, but vocalizations from the curious mammals, including one that seemed to be speaking to the camera.

Oh, whywhywhy do I go to http://enenews.com ? Should I just abandon it, at this point? As there really is nothing to be done? Should I just carry on, ignoring it all, like everyone else, just pretend that everything is fine? Get in line and march numbly to the holiday stores to empty my pockets, like everyone else? I don't know what I can do. What any of us can, at this point.

Nov. 12th, 2013 07:23 pmThis is amazing. In this scary, horrible, on-its-last-legs world - things like this give me hope. Not so much that it will change things, not so much that it will help me, personally - just that there are still good people, out there.
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/nov/12/occupy-wall-street-activists-15m-personal-debt
A group of Occupy Wall Street activists has bought almost $15m of Americans' personal debt over the last year as part of the Rolling Jubilee project to help people pay off their outstanding credit.
Rolling Jubilee, set up by Occupy's Strike Debt group following the street protests that swept the world in 2011, launched on 15 November 2012. The group purchases personal debt cheaply from banks before "abolishing" it, freeing individuals from their bills.
By purchasing the debt at knockdown prices the group has managed to free $14,734,569.87 of personal debt, mainly medical debt, spending only $400,000.
It still doesn't counterbalance the ever-growing horror that is Fukushima, and what is going on on the west coast and in our dearly departed Pacific ocean, but. It's something, right? Right?

Nov. 7th, 2013 06:07 pmI'm getting so I hate training new people. Number one? They almost never stay, once they get a taste of what we really do, and of what's expected. I was told to basically LIE and not tell them that they WILL end up, at some point, doing a wing alone. This latest example? Well.
a) Has a second full-time job, which means I'm pretty much dragging a 250 lb. weight around with me, all night..
b) Major language barrier. I told him to PLEASE tell me if he doesn't understand something, NOT to just nod and smile and pretend he does. I can get by in other languages besides english, so lay it on me, if it's a problem.
c) Seems to disappear a great lot. Yes, I know that you are capable of wiping a butt, BUT you are to stay with me, your mentor, to learn what ELSE is required - and yes, I know it's a lot and said so, several times. I've been patient. And yes, I know that that other CNA is prettier - and I don't blame you for wanting to follow her around - but she is from dayshift and their routine and imperatives differ greatly.
d) The Input/Output sheet is NOT to be torn up to give other employees your phone number. You're married, anyway; we see your ring..
Tonight, buddy, we're going to see how much you've listened. I've written notes on your sheet MYSELF, since you didn't seem to think these things were important, and I've done the lion's share of the work, in order to not, 'scare you away' - I'm very, very easygoing, and yes, I know that speed comes with time and that precision and details are more important, at this point, but - GAH. Time to step it up.
Thank God the weekend starts tomorrow.

Oct. 26th, 2013 12:32 pmBoo! Tabby, Channelle and I did THIS, last night: http://www.jasonswoods.com/haunted_attractions.asp
Channelle brought her two sons and her niece, and they made the night, for me - just delightful, and so well-behaved, just nice kids. Her niece (about 11) is *gorgeous* - tres' Paris Jackson, and the youngest son (around 8) is adorable, and the eldest (around 15) is a nerd, after my own heart. We've exchanged emails, as he is way-y-y into space and ufos - I have some great videos to hook him up with, including this:( Read more... )
Anyway, hilarity ensued - the clown thing was the best - one of them had the NERVE to look like, 'Mr. Boogie' from, Sinister - the ONE recent,'horror' movie that really disturbed me: ( Read more... )
- All of us in a conga line, screaming as we wove our way through the utter darkness of a maze, with a wall on one side, and chain-link fence, on the other...my ♥, as her younger son just buried his face in my chest, LOL - creeping along; me, wondering, 'Who is behind me, touching me, come ON', almost the whole way - then, turning my face, ever-so-slightly to see a skeleton-clown RIGHT THERE! The whole time! LOL! - then, the blonde woman, that I THOUGHT it was, yelling, "It's not me!" - LMAO! 'BOTTLENECK! BOTTLENECK!', as we all refused to go down this one hallway thing - "We'll just stand here, awhile" - and the pirates, with the 3D glasses! Whoot.
Also, the guy in the metal cage, on the hayride - 'barfing' on our heads as we went under him - LOL - I've not laughed so hard in a long time. They also had the NERVE to have the one OTHER thing that kinda scares me - BIGFOOT - on said hayride, which made Tabby and I laugh even HARDER, as she KNOWS... :D
SO well-done. I really, really, really wanted to get a better look at this one robot, but, alas.
