"And all I am is UGLY..
NOTHING I am is beautiful, at all..
Don't GET this world..
I...don't GET this world."
-- 'Someone's Coming/Scratch 'Truth, Goodness and Beauty' vocals'
I just watched the limited edition dvd for, 'The Cure'. Twice. Like being hit with a fucking brick wall. GodDAMN..and a whole host of other cursewords spring to mind, but fall utterly flat..NOTHING compares to this. NOTHING.
Ravaging.
The simple, unquestionable, raw POWER of this music -- this wall of intensity -- is the highlight. Undeniable. If this is the 'new' Cure..it makes a lot of the rest of it seem..as if it was only leading up to this. And for me to say that, that MEANS something. My God.
Jaw-dropping. Actually head-banging.
It's just the boys -- in three portions; sweating it..grinding it...pounding it THE FUCK out in the semi-darkness of a hardwood studio...Oriental carpets on the floor..candles allllllllll 'round them, flickering.
One of the best parts was Jason going fuckin' apeshit on the drums...like a madman..and dropping one midstream? HE KEEPS POUNDING...KEEPS BEATING...WITH HIS BARE HAND..until someone hands it back to him. GodDAMN. And Rob just fucking sawing at that guitar..his hand, a blur.
I can't WAIT to see this stuff LIVE.
Not enough Simon, of course..but, there never could be to suit me. He looks just incredible -- sitting there, meek and quiet, playing away with his legs crossed, chewing his gum..I will always LOVE how his face 'goes somewhere else', inward-like, when he plays. I want to kiss the back of his still long and graceful neck..
'The endless swan-like' -- 'This Darkest Forest' -- me
I got to watch it again. Be back in a bit.
