Colbert on Letterman. Was able to get it in - crystal clear, mind you - and it's a good thing. I'd read about the boat that he and his son built from scratch over a summer, and he showed pictures of it - the maiden voyage, with his elderly mother in it, casting off in the shallows; a shot of him and his son, sailing in it, displaying both the South Carolina state flag and a Jolly Roger, of course; and him, in blissful suburbia, wearing baggy, longish 'dad shorts' standing proud upon completion, and and and and....and apparently, he drinks 'Red Stripe' beer, which I had to look up (it's Jamaican).

*contented sigh, nonetheless*

I'd rather spend the rest of my life alone, than settle for a guy any less than, 'of that ilk' or a reasonable facsimile. He really *is* The Standard. SMART, FUNNY, BUSY, good-hearted, honest, pothead, SMART, goofy, forthright, gentlemanly, tuned-in, wise-ass/drama balloon-popping, silly, spiritual, empathic, SMART, bossy, constantly talking, and he really CAN dance, perfectly neat Superman hair, traditional-minded, KICK-ASS AT TRIVIAL PURSUIT, building-a-mutha-fuckin' BOAT, SUNDAY-SCHOOL TEACHING...and did I say SMART?

A lovely thing, after a two-hour brain-shredding, soul-dicing marathon phone call from my older sister, who ranted (she literally screams in lieu of talking) at me non-stop, running the gamut from My Health (and Teh Man's) to Our Childhood to Her Marriage to Why You Are The Way You Are And Why We Are Different to a crying jag in regards to our father to Work to Her Cats...to..to..Why She Hasn't Seen Me Since The Last Holiday...uh. There's a good reason for that.

I just stay out of their way, these days, if possible.

DJ and I are discussing getting a Wii.

An-n-n-nd my Colbert desk calendar came today! It's a beautiful sight. :)

uh huh. Yes. Thank you.

[identity profile] indiwise.livejournal.com 2008-11-21 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you. They are most few and far between. Alas.

[identity profile] mercystars.livejournal.com 2008-11-21 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
Is the picture of Stephen wrapped in the flag (in black socks) included in that calendar, by chance...?

[identity profile] indiwise.livejournal.com 2008-11-21 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
Not that I could see - it's a Quote-A-Day, sort of thing - stuff from his book. Nevertheless, I love it. :)

[identity profile] mercystars.livejournal.com 2008-11-21 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I wonder if there's a picture calendar...? I'd wager yes...

[identity profile] ffarff.livejournal.com 2008-11-21 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
ive never been a fan of ay computer game sort of thing.i dont understand them, but i enjoy a bit of singstar occasionally [when its not with people who care about the score but who can do the best impersonation of someone else doing the song etc] but Wii... i saw you can get some sort of 'band' thing. it was tempting.
not that i have a tv that allows any sort of technology. cant even plug a VCR into its that old [and thats the way i like it].

i was about to get excited about South Carolina people, but then i realised Ryan Adams comes from North Carolina...poo.

[identity profile] indiwise.livejournal.com 2008-11-21 07:06 am (UTC)(link)
Hehehehhe - well, DJ is smart; he told me that his friend lost ten lbs in a week, playing Wii. I love the idea of fitness programs...plus, something we can do together. :)

Oh! And Colbert and Spiderman! He was just featured in an issue of Spiderman. Dammit. I thought I'd posted the cover...didn't I? I thought I did..who knows.

[identity profile] ffarff.livejournal.com 2008-11-21 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
i love it that he's being featured in Spiderman. i had a little read of what i could with all the little colbert related stuff in a few issues. makes me laugh.

i want to get a excercise bike but i cant bloody afford renting or buying one. im going to have to ransack op shops for one.

yeah im not surprised about the weightloss with wii's. definitely the most energetic computery thing. they're buy wiis for aged care places here.

[identity profile] indiwise.livejournal.com 2008-11-21 08:09 am (UTC)(link)
>>they're buy wiis for aged care places here.

OMG. NO WAY. I can see ALL sorts of things done with that technology. Brilliant.

OMG. I can see my people bowling...tennis...

[identity profile] ffarff.livejournal.com 2008-11-21 08:36 am (UTC)(link)
exactly. its gentle excerise and the have it right there no need for transporting people.

[identity profile] indiwise.livejournal.com 2008-11-21 09:13 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you. I know they'll think I'm crazy, but I'm bringing that up at work tomorrow night. :)

[identity profile] ffarff.livejournal.com 2008-11-21 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
make a great case and they suuurely cant refuse.
it just makes sense, doesnt it.

[identity profile] gayalithiel.livejournal.com 2008-11-21 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Just so you know, these are popular at nursing homes everywhere. Ours even got one this last year. At one point, we thought Walmart might donate one....I can't remember if that worked out or not. I think they had bowling, baseball and...fishing? Oh and golf.

[identity profile] ffarff.livejournal.com 2008-11-21 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
and whats with colbert and spiderman?

[identity profile] gayalithiel.livejournal.com 2008-11-21 01:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm so glad you got Letterman in! You deserved some quality tv time with Mr. Colbert. <3

[identity profile] indiwise.livejournal.com 2008-11-21 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm so sorry that I missed you this morning! And I tellya - after shoveling all that snow? I earned his appearance on Martha Stewart...not sure if I can get it in...but..

He makes a Mistletoe Ball with her - in a sweater - and there is a kiss. That much, I know.

[identity profile] indiwise.livejournal.com 2008-11-21 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
TWO kisses, actually. And Oh, so cute. SO cute..So CUTE. He brought everyone in the audience a copy of his Christmas special, too. And took audience questions, heh.

[identity profile] ffarff.livejournal.com 2008-11-21 01:29 pm (UTC)(link)
when was that colbert letterman thing on tv over there because i happened to turn the tv on and that ep happened to be on. weird. i thought we were like moooooooooooonths behind.
i did like the 'The Deck The Halls' joke.

[identity profile] indiwise.livejournal.com 2008-11-21 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
That was the same one! LOL! He actually seemed pretty subdued, didn't he?

[identity profile] ffarff.livejournal.com 2008-11-21 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
i have no idea because i havent seen very much of him at all.

the girl after him was a bit...ek, awkward interview. i was cringing every time she spoke. poor thing was SO nervous and then got laughed at.

[identity profile] violentfemmebot.livejournal.com 2008-11-21 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
He really *is* The Standard (...)

HEE! You are so ridiculously infatuated, I LOVE it! :D

There's a good reason for that.

GAAHHHHHH!!!! She sounds like a frightful nag! I often wish I didn't even have a sibling. Alas, my own is SO FREAKIN obnoxious . . Mr. Big Money Ayn Rand Capitalist Whore.

[identity profile] indiwise.livejournal.com 2008-11-21 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I am. He is SO my tv boyfriend. ;)

As for my sister, JEEBUS MARY. It's O, so ironic that I turned out to be the 'normal' one. It was driving her CRAZY that I was just not. having. it. and very calm..Some people just like to stir shit up, which has always been the case with her; she kinda rules the world and those around her, this way - always has...but I would PUT MONEY ON IT that she was drinking, although she denied it. I mean, come ON. Cripes.

[identity profile] violentfemmebot.livejournal.com 2008-11-21 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Some people just like to stir shit up

I SWEAR, I can't stand people like that, and I've worked with my share of them. You just wanna say "What's so funny about peace, love and understanding?" I also think that's one of the strongest arguments against "Nurture" - how can two kids raised in a similar background turn out so fucking DIFFERENT? And I LOVE that you were calm with her . . nothing pisses off drama queens more than that!

*sends a fistful of Valiums for dealing with the woman over the holidays*

[identity profile] indiwise.livejournal.com 2008-11-22 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
If I am correct? THAT is the song that Stephen sings with Elvis Costello on his Christmas special, hehehehhehe....there's something to do with 'Rock Lobster', as well. Ha. The man has taste.

THIS IZ UR INTERVENTION

[identity profile] z0mbiem0m.livejournal.com 2008-11-21 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Indi, I think it's time we sat you down and got you to admit that you have Colbertophilia (silent 'T').

Re: THIS IZ UR INTERVENTION

[identity profile] indiwise.livejournal.com 2008-11-22 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I admit it, freely. It's funny; it started last February, when DJ and I were at Walmart, of all places, and he picked up a dvd 'The Best of the Colbert Report' and said, You HAVE to see this show', so personally, I blame him. I remember vividly, rolling my eyes and not wanting to bother with it....o_O

No, I still don't have television. Pete records and puts onto DVD both TCR and TDS for me, and I pick them up in liEk, monthly increments, lol. I am ALWAYS at least a month or so behind what everyone else is talking about, as a result, but I don't mind.

And it's actually a good thing. He's certainly helped to change my personal outlook on the world in a lot of ways, especially politics and matters of faith, and hey! There's actually JOY in this world...who knew? He's a good guy, dang, grrl. You need to read his book.

"Dad shorts". I almost died from those adorable family pics. That was a great interview. :)

Even when I get married to some other man...my heart shall pine for Stephen. He's amazing. He built a goddamn boat!

Mmm, Colbert calendar. Can't wait to get that for Christmas. =)

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_lyra_b/ 2008-11-22 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Wasn't he just adorable?

He was on The Martha Stewart show the next day - and before you say anything, I DO NOT watch Martha - I just saw Stephen was going to be on it and I recorded it. They made a "Mistletoe Ball' and both J and I remarked about SC's considerable restraint in refraining from making any "balls" jokes. (And from not smacking the shit out of that prissy woman!)
:D

[identity profile] indiwise.livejournal.com 2008-11-22 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I saw that!!! It magically came in clear - my reward for shoveling all that snow in the morning, I guess. And yes - no ''balls'' jokes - which I had expected, as well, after I'd seen on her site that that was the craft they'd be making - and I loved that he seemed disappointed that they weren't cooking (Stephen + Food = Bliss). Now, I really don't have a problem with Miss Martha - being raised with a name like, 'Martha' HAD to have affected her head, lol - she just makes me feel GUILTY, lol...

I won't be able to watch it, but CHRISTMAS SPECIAL AIRS TOMORROW! (I pre-ordered mine from Amazon..)

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_lyra_b/ 2008-11-23 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm so glad you caught that episode of Martha - I loved it when he was pouring glitter all over the pearl thingies! Martha just makes me glad I'm not anal-retentive. Hee!

I can hardly wait for the Christmas special - although I'm sure they'll repeat it a gazillion times between now and Decemebr 25th. ;)

[identity profile] indiwise.livejournal.com 2008-11-23 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Me, too....and me, too. Hehehhhe - and Martha's going, ' So WASTEFUL!!!', like, once the glitter's out of the container, IT CAN NEVER GO BACK...yes. I also loved when she called him, 'Ornery' - it's funny, 'cos it's true..I love the five-year-old side of him. ♥
